Thomas Hüwener studied mechanical engineering at Bochum Ruhr University and Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA, and specialised in energy technology / systems and environmental engineering. He was awarded a doctorate from Essen University on the subject of Numerical investigation of unsteady flow in a two-stage turbine flowmeter.
He started his career in 1997 as research assistant at the Institute of Turbomachinery of Essen University; since then, numerous publications and presentations on fluid mechanics, flow measurement, integrity management, safety technology, inline inspection, pipeline construction and power to gas followed. In 2001 he joined E.ON Ruhrgas AG as section manager in Applications Development, while he became section manager in Pipeline Technology, E.ON Ruhrgas AG in 2003, being appointed as Head of Pipeline Projects in 2004. Since then, he holds various memberships in international bodies of the gas industry. In 2006, Mr. Hüwener became Head of Pipeline Technology, E.ON Ruhrgas AG and 2010 Head of Pipeline Technology at Open Grid Europe GmbH. From March 2013 on, he is Member of the Board of Management of Open Grid Europe GmbH, responsible for the technical area.
