Virtual Training Course: Addressing Cracks in Pipelines

This virtual training course covers the fundamental aspects of pipeline cracking and in-line inspection (ILI) for crack detection and assessment. The aim is to provide proven methods and approaches for addressing the various crack threats that can affect the integrity of pipelines. The information provided forms the basis for engineers to address the cracking threat and update associated integrity management plans (IMPs).

Although all cracking threats are considered, the examples provided in the training course will focus on cracking threats affecting North American pipelines, specifically electrical resistance welding cracking in DC, flash, low and high frequency welds, fatigue crack growth and stress corrosion cracking.

The training course will focus on the guidelines of the recommended practice for crack detection and assessment API 1176. The approach to classifying ILI indications, considerations for responding to potential cracks found by ILI, and the interaction between the ILI provider and the pipeline operator are an important aspect of this course. Approaches to confirm ILI results, including in-trench non-destructive testing and hydrostatic testing, will also be presented.
