The arrival of ROSENs intelligent inspection tool. It has completed the inspection run from Vyborg, Russia to Lubmin, Germany within only 10 days.

Stans, Switzerland, September 27th,  2013 – “We are very proud of achieving the world record for the longest non-stop inspection of the Nord Stream pipeline through the Baltic sea”, said Friedrich Hecker, CEO of the ROSEN Group, on the arrival of the company’s intelligent inspection tool in Lubmin, Germany.

“Key to the success of this project was the team effort across nations as well as the technological leadership and the strength of our business approach. We have scheduled and set the schedule two years ago and are very proud of the fact that we have never been one day behind schedule”, continues Stephan Harmsen, Senior Project Manager of the ROSEN Group and responsible for this project.

The especially for Nord Stream developed and manufactured 48 inch pipeline inspection tool ran from Vyborg, Russia to Lubmin, Germany over a distance of 1224 km. The tool started September, 16th and arrived only 10 days later in Lubmin, which makes an average tool speed of about 1,5m/s. This was the longest non-stop inspection run world-wide, by which the ROSEN Group proved their capabilities to ensure the safe and reliable inspection of highly valued industrial assets.

The tool with a weight of 7 tons and a length of around 7m can detect smallest changes in the integrity of the pipeline structure with high-resolution measurement technology. It has been designed and developed especially for this project by the ROSEN technology and research Center in Lingen, Lower Saxony. During its´ journey the tool has collected data amounting to over one terabyte that will now be analyzed in detail in ROSEN´s research facilities.

This was the second inspection by the ROSEN group for the Nord Stream project which compiles the world´s two longest off shore gas pipelines. The first pipeline inspection was successfully completed in July this year. A first evaluation of the inspection data confirms that no signs of corrosion or deformation could be found, which is also reflected by the excellent condition of the ROSEN in-line inspection tool after the run. No significant signs of abrasion on the tool indicate a good pipeline condition as well as an excellent quality of the ROSEN tool.
