Simon Slater Honored with PRCI Distinguished Researcher Award
At this year’s Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI) Research Exchange Conference in Orlando, Florida, Simon Slater, Principal Engineer at ROSEN, was recognized with the Distinguished Researcher Award. This prestigious honor highlights amongst other contributions to PRCI and the wider industry, his leadership in developing consensus engineering requirements for the Emerging Fuels Institute (EFI); work that will play a key role in enabling future updates to ASME standards for the safe and effective transport of emerging and low-carbon fuels. His contribution positions ROSEN at the center of the energy transition and strengthens collaboration across the global pipeline community.
The significance of this award is reflected in its long-standing tradition. As Michelle Unger, Vice President for Strategic Industry Engagement, notes, “The PRCI Distinguished Researcher Award has a long tradition of recognizing individuals who make meaningful contributions to the technical foundation of our industry. Simon stands firmly in this tradition. His journey from contributing engineer to recognized industry leader reflects exceptional dedication, deep expertise, and a continuous drive to advance the integrity community. His work on future fuels standards will influence our industry for many years to come.” Her statement underscores not only the relevance of Simon’s technical achievements but also their lasting impact on how the industry prepares for future fuel systems.
Over recent years, Simon has significantly expanded his role within PRCI. As an active member of the Design, Materials, and Construction (DMC) Committee and the Research Steering Committee, he has become a trusted voice in shaping collaborative engineering standards. Colleagues frequently highlight his ability to analyze complex problems, connect diverse perspectives, and guide teams toward practical, forward-looking solutions.
This development has been closely observed by leadership across the organization. Mark Wright, Head of Business Field for Integrity Solutions, reflects on Simon’s evolution: “I have had the privilege of watching Simon’s development over many years. What sets him apart is not only his technical rigor but also his ability to connect research with real-world application. The PRCI Distinguished Researcher Award has a long history of honoring leading minds in our industry, and Simon now rightfully joins this group. His contributions strengthen our projects, our teams, and our collaboration with customers worldwide. This recognition reflects his perseverance, strategic thinking, and the inspiration he brings to others.”
Beyond his technical accomplishments, Simon is known for his mentoring spirit, curiosity, and ability to help teams think bigger and push boundaries. Colleagues frequently highlight his openness, creativity, and willingness to support emerging engineers, qualities that mirror PRCI’s mission of building future knowledge and strengthening technical communities.
