The Hermann Rosen Award for Pipeline Innovation is a global award celebrating bold ideas that advance pipeline integrity and engineering excellence created in partnership with the ASME Foundation and inspired by decades of ROSEN innovation.

The award recognizes emerging innovators whose ideas have the potential to transform the future of pipeline safety, integrity, and performance. Endowed by the ROSEN Group and presented in partnership with the ASME Foundation, the award celebrates technical excellence, creative thinking, and the pioneering spirit of our founder, Hermann Rosen. Each year’s winner is awarded a prize of USD 25,000 to support the further development of their idea.
 


About the Award

The Hermann Rosen Award for Pipeline Innovation honors early career professionals and students who challenge established approaches and contribute solutions that make a meaningful difference in our industry. The annual award highlights engineering ideas, ranging from early stage concepts to emerging prototypes, that combine technical rigor, creativity, and real world relevance. 
Established in 2025, the award reflects a shared commitment by the ASME Foundation and the ROSEN Group to empower the next generation of innovators and ideas that will shape the future of pipeline engineering to strengthen the long term resilience of global energy and pipeline systems.

Hermann Rosen is a distinguished visionary leader and pioneer in the global energy services industry. Throughout his remarkable career, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment to innovation, excellence, and sustainable progress, qualities that have shaped his companies and set new benchmarks for the sector.

Holding a degree in Electronics and Control Technique, Hermann Rosen began his entrepreneurial journey immediately after completing his studies by founding an engineering and consultancy firm specializing in electrical design and home automation in Lingen, Germany. This early venture laid the foundation for his future leadership in the energy services sector.

In 1981, he founded the ROSEN Group and transformed it into a globally recognized leader in pipeline inspection and integrity services. Under his visionary leadership, the company pioneered advanced inspection technologies and sophisticated data analytics, firmly positioning ROSEN Group at the forefront of technical service innovation. Beyond technology, Hermann Rosen cultivated strategic partnerships and alliances with industry leaders, regulators, and clients worldwide, ensuring alignment with evolving market dynamics and regulatory frameworks while consistently delivering superior value.

Continuing his legacy of innovation, Hermann Rosen founded Rosenxt in 2023. Building on decades of engineering excellence, Rosenxt applies its expertise in sensor technology, autonomous robotics, AI and advanced materials to develop highly innovative solutions for challenging environments such as subsea applications, renewable energy and ensuring the integrity of water and energy supplies. This venture reflects his ongoing ambition to explore new frontiers and address global challenges with breakthrough solutions.

2025: Ricardo Emanuel Vaz Vargas, Petrobras, Brazil

His project, the "3W Project," challenges the current paradigm of oil well monitoring by encouraging the development and experimentation of machine learning–based approaches and algorithms for various problems related to the detection and classification of undesirable events in offshore oil wells and pipeline systems.
