Testing Facilities

Whatever challenge comes through our doors, we can adapt or modify our equipment to carry out the tests a client requires. Whether it is setting up unusual pipe geometries to demonstrate that inspection tools can safely navigate them, or creating bespoke rigs to strength test novel repair products, our industry experts are on hand to create the best customized solution quickly and efficiently. Each Test Center location has different facilities and specializes in different areas.

Gain unique insights with our new hydrogen laboratory

In 2022, we extended our existing materials testing capabilities with a dedicated section for hydrogen. The laboratory allows us to conduct material and exposure tests in hydrogen atmospheres (and other gases) at temperatures of up to 200°C and pressures of up to 400 bars. We offer all the material testing methods necessary to ensure the safe transportation of hydrogen in pipelines.

The testing and laboratory services at our Newcastle location cover validating integrity assessments, failure investigations, product qualification, and empirical validation of new and existing products and services in the oil and gas industry.

Our schedule of testing provides more info about types of tests we can execute at our facility in Newcastle (UK) and which specifications and techniques are used.

Special features of this facility are the following:

  • Pressure testing (including full scale large diameter pipe fatigue and burst testing)
  • Operational environmental exposure testing lab (QUV light exposure, salt spray, humidly, thermal cycling, etc.)
  • Elevated temperature testing
  • Bespoke mechanical testing rigs (3-point and 4-point bending, vibration, etc.)
  • Mechanical testing laboratory (tensile testing, hardness testing, ring expansion, etc.)
  • Abrasion testing (taber and dry sand rubber wheel)
  • Metallographic laboratory (macro and micro preparation, microscopy, SEM, etc.)
  • Chemistry laboratory
  • Instrumentation and data logging
  • Temperature controlled rooms (-20 °C to +40 °C)

Accreditations:

  • UKAS 17025 – Testing Laboratory
  • ISO 9001 – Quality Management
  • ISO 45001 – Health and Safety
  • ISO 14001 - Environmental

Our Test Center in Lingen (Ems) is the largest and most extensive test site of the ROSEN Group. In 2017, we established a new pulling winch at the test field with a second-to-none performance rating to further optimize the conditions under which we test our inspection tools.

Special features of this facility are the following:

  • 108,000 m² testing area
  • 6,000 pipe segments with diameters of 3″ to 56″
  • Central location for tests with customer involvement
  • Two test towers (e.g. launching and receiving tests of various inspection tools for offshore platforms, testing of self-propelled, robotic and tethered solutions)
  • 1,100 m² Test and Calibration Hall
  • Hydrogen laboratory is TÜV-certified
