Seamless Transition to a Future-Proof Software Solution

An operator from Oceania has relied on an asset integrity management software for more than a decade to effectively manage the integrity and data of its extensive gas transmission pipeline network. As the software reached its end of its product lifecycle, the operator sought a new solution to continue managing its pipeline data and related integrity management activities digitally. The goal was to implement a cutting-edge software solution that facilitates integrity decision-making, ensures compliance with standards and regulations, and supports cost-effective and safe operation. Additionally, one of operator’s key requirements was to maintain a centralized repository for quick access to the growing volume of critical pipeline data.

Our solution

To fulfill the operator’s requirements, ROSEN successfully transitioned from the former software product to the new, state-ofthe-art NIMA Integrity Management Platform. This transformation, supported by expert services, established a robust and futureready system for managing pipeline data records and ensuring comprehensive integrity management.

The NIMA Integrity Management Platform was deployed as Software as a Service (SaaS) solution within the operator’s dedicated environment and securely hosted on ROSEN’s ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certified IT infrastructure. This setup enables seamless user access anytime from any device via a web browser, ensuring flexibility and efficiency. A scalable platform approach was implemented, replacing isolated and opaque software modules with auditable, integrated workflows for post-in-line inspection (ILI) integrity management. This modernization enhances transparency and streamlines processes for improved decision-making.

To meet the operator’s need for dynamic data visualization dashboards and in-depth integrity analysis, interactive dashboards were developed, offering real-time insights into fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments, corrosion growth assessments (CGA) and other critical integrity parameters. Additionally, extensive data migration services were provided, covering integration and alignment of historical records from dozens of transmission pipeline sections into a geodatabase based on the Esri ® Utility & Pipeline Data Model (UPDM). This migration encompassed approximately 20 years of ILI data, alongside cathodic protection (CP) readings, ensuring seamless transition and data continuity.

A key focus of the transition was facilitating rapid adoption of the new software solution. To achieve this, ROSEN delivered expert guidance and comprehensive user training, empowering the operator’s teams to maximize the platform’s capabilities. Post-implementation services were also introduces within an agile service delivery framework, enabling on-demand integration and alignment of both the latest and future inspection data.

To ensure long-term operational excellence, the NIMA Integrity Management subscription includes ongoing maintenance services and local software helpdesk support. These features provide continuous functionality enhancements while fostering a seamless user experience.

Your benefit

From data to information to decision – effective data management serves as the foundation for any integrity assessment. As the industry faces an ever-growing volume of data, prioritizing structured and efficient data handling becomes essential to ensure safe and cost-effective operations.

The NIMA Integrity Management software, combined with ROSEN’s comprehensive suite of data management services, empowers operators’ engineers throughout the entire asset integrity management cycle. This integrated approach enhanced data-driven decision-making and optimizes operational efficiency.

Key benefits for the operator include:

  • Seamless implementation and rapid adoption: The SaaS solution enables a quick and easy setup, allowing for immediate user access. Its seamless integration into daily workflows ensure minimal disruptions, while flexible extensions provide scalability as operational needs evolve.
  • Advanced integrity insights for informed decision-making: A suite of selected integrity management workflows delivers deep insights into pipeline conditions, empowering engineers to make optimal integrity management decisions.
  • Centralized data for reliable integrity assessments: Historical and future datasets are consolidated in a geodatabase, establishing a single source of truth. This ensures traceable, verifiable, and complete records, improving the accuracy and reliability of integrity assessments.
  • Efficient and scalable data management services: ROSEN’s data specialists leverage state-of-the-art GIS tools to manage and migrate critical asset data. The services includes rapid turnaround times for on-demand data management requests, substantial cost savings compared maintaining an in-house data and GIS team, and a flexible, per-unit based cost model that allows for precise budget planning.
  • Ongoing support and long-term collaboration: Direct access to ROSEN’s team of integrity and data management experts via the SaaS environment ensures continuous support, fostering a longterm partnership.
